POSTPONEMENT OF DAFFODIL DAY MOTOR SHOW

On behalf of the organising committee, I wish to update you concerning the very last minute postponement of the Daffodil Motor Show in Masterton on August 23.

Unfortunately, the weather is the one anomaly we do not have control over. The conditions at the venue on the morning of the 23rd at 6.45 am were suitable to continue with the event. However by 7 .30 am the wind had increased in strength to the point it made the venue unsafe, hence the decision to cancel today’s event and reschedule it at a later date was made.

We did not make this decision lightly knowing the full effect it would have on people travelling a long distance to attend. We are truly sorry if you were one of those entrants. The committee has worked hard to put on an event that both entrants and the public will enjoy and at the same time raise funds for the Cancer Society.

We are in discussion with the MotorPlex Board to secure a new date. When we have the date secured, we will be back in touch. We trust you will still support us with your attendance.

Again, we are so sorry to have caused any confusion or upset with today’s decision.

Pre-registered vehicles automatically go in the draw to win a prize, as well as receiving a discounted entry fee of $10 and preferential parking on the drag strip. Pre-registration closes 19 August 2026. This is a strictly NO DOGS and NO ALCOHOL event.

Event details:
Watch this space for an updated Daffodil Day Motor Show date. Site access for show cars from 8am. Gates open to the public at 10am. Prizegiving starts 1pm.

All award-eligible registered vehicles to be parked before 9:45am and remain in place until after prizegiving. We would like to thank our major sponsors: Fagan Motors NZ, Masterton Motorplex and WizWireless, without these organisations this event wouldn't be possible.

Its parent organisation, The Vintage Car Club of New Zealand (VCC) is a national organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the history of vintage motoring. It was established in 1954, by a small group of enthusiasts in Invercargill.

The Wairarapa Vintage Car Club organises tarseal trundles and rural runs as well as regular club evenings around the country for a yarn with like minded enthusiasts.

By 1963 the club had more than 60 members and New Zealand won the right to host the 6th International Vintage Car Rally, further promoting the VCC and vintage motoring.

History of the Wairarapa Vintage Car Club

On 10th February 1962 the Wairarapa AA celebrated their 50th jubilee with a run to Tauherenikau Racecourse where 36 veteran and vintage vehicles put on a picnic day parade.

The success of this event prompted a follow-up letter which was sent to all known vintage car enthusiasts in the Wairarapa, suggesting a meeting be held in March 1963 to set up a Wairarapa vintage car group. Prior to this, local vintage motoring fans had to travel out of the district to events in Wellington and Whanganui for contact with fellow enthusiasts.

This meeting led to the official formation on the Wairarapa Vintage Car Club at a second meeting held on 6 June 1968, when the inaugural committee was elected.
